My handmade Coptic journal follows the ancient traditional technique of Coptic binding stitch developed by early Christians in Egypt around 2nd century AD.
About 17 years ago I came across these exquisitely bound books by my late friend fibre-folio artist and maker Jane Flower. It was a tiny coptic stitched book that Jane had on display while teaching at a book binding workshop. I was hooked. These books now occupy a special place in my repertoire of handcrafted items.
These journals make great gifts and are ideal for writing one’s special memoirs, as an artist’s mixed media journal, sketch book and so on.
They open out to 360 degrees. It lays flat making it comfortable and easy to use without the binders bump at the centre.
Apart from the unique binding, the hard bound covers of my books are made of special material such as handmade paper and vintage wallpaper completing the special look and feel.
This special journal is also available for purchase and collection from the Victoria Street Collective, Bunbury.
