My handmade Coptic journal follows the ancient traditional technique of COPTIC STITCH BINDING – DEVELOPED BY EARLY CHRISTIANS IN EGYPT AROUND 2ND CENTURY AD
Over 15 years ago I came across these exquisitely bound books by Jane Flower of Folios & Fibre. It was a tiny coptic stitched book that Jane had on display while teaching at a book binding workshop. I was hooked. These books now occupy a special place in my repertoire of handcrafted items.
These journals make great gifts and are ideal for writing one’s special memoirs, as an artist’s mixed media journal, sketch book and so on.
They open out to 360 degrees. It lays flat making it comfortable and easy to use without the binders bump at the centre.
Apart from the unique binding, the hard bound covers of my books are made of special material such as handmade paper and vintage wallpaper completing the special look and feel.
